If you're feeling overwhelmed or exhausted from trying to figure it all out, you’re in the right place.

Whatever you're facing, therapy can help.

Therapy should be a place of healing, not harm.

When therapy doesn’t honor identity and autonomy, it can mirror the very systems of oppression people come to heal from.

I believe therapy should be collaborative because your voice matters as much as mine. It should name and challenge harmful systems rather than pretending they don’t exist. It should recognize that your struggles don’t happen in isolation, but in a world shaped by power, culture, and history.

Most of all, therapy should empower you to live authentically, with the freedom to define what matters most to you.

That’s why my practice is queer inclusive, feminist, and pro-choice.

Queer Inclusive

Queer inclusive therapy is about respect, affirmation, and celebration of queer lives and relationships

Feminist

Feminist therapy connects personal healing to the broader context of justice and liberation

Pro-choice

Pro-choice therapy affirms your right to make decisions about your body, your future, and your values

“Empathetic, intuitive, and deeply understanding, Mary Katherine Lance brings a warm, calming energy to every session. Her well-informed approach and genuine care make her an exceptional therapist who truly sees and supports you.”

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy Can Help You Break Through

Many counseling models focus on changing how you think or feel. But if you’re here, I’m guessing you’ve already tried that. You’ve likely spent a lot of time and energy trying to get rid of unwanted thoughts, emotions, or memories, only to find they come back stronger than before.

This is why I use the evidence-based approach of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (or ACT, which is pronounced like the word “act”) to help my clients live with greater meaning, purpose, and authenticity—even when they’re dealing with difficult thoughts and emotions that feel out of their control.

With ACT, the goal isn’t to feel good all the time—it’s to live a life that feels deeply aligned with who you are, even when discomfort and challenges show up along the way.

It’s about breaking through the noise of your mind so you can move toward a life of meaning, purpose, and connection.

What to Expect

01. Email Me

Share what you’d like! Some people tell me a little about why they’re seeking therapy, and some don’t—either way is fine. We can set up a free consultation, or go straight to scheduling your first session.

02. Have a Consultation

(This step is optional.)

Ask me any questions you have. I’ll ask what’s brought you to therapy, what your goals are, and whether you’ve tried counseling before (and what you liked or didn’t like about it).

03. Complete Paperwork

If you decide to move forward, I’ll send you an invitation to create a client portal account.

You’ll need to fill out and sign a few forms before your first session.

This session is just about getting to know each other.

You can share as much or as little as feels comfortable.

04. Have Your First Session

05. Schedule Your Next Session

Congratulations! Starting therapy is a meaningful step toward the changes you want.
